Peat Dragons (Subtype – Earth; Alignment – usually Neutral)
Peat dragons are small, dumpy dragons with dull greenish-brownish scales which just get browner over time. Instead of horny protrusions, peat dragons just have whiskers similar to spanish moss. They smell of swamp gas. Their eyes are perhaps their most remarkable feature, as they appear to be diamonds.
Peat dragons tend to live in the middle of peat bogs, marshes, and swamps. Their lair will generally be underground quite a ways, often partly filled with water. Their preferred food is mollusks and crustaceons of all sorts. Above their lair, generally masking one of the entrances, they usually build a small shack, which will generally be furnished as a shop selling magical items of all sorts.
Unlike other dragons, peat dragons learn their spells like a wizard, although still casting spontaneously, and have the same number of spells per day as a wizard of equivalent caster level. Their spell save DCs and bonus spells are based on Intelligence. Although weaker than other dragons physically, peat dragons are on par with the most powerful dragons in terms of spell-casting. Peat dragons are master crafters, and they spend much of their time researching new spells and creating magical items. When encountered outside their lair, peat dragons often appear as a stooped, older humanoids of indeterminate race and questionable gender. They are always quite eager to sell their magical wares (very expensive magical wares).
Peat dragons rely heavily on their spell-casting and various magical items in combat. They are reluctant combatants, and if they are losing a battle, they may try to bribe their way out by offering the attacker some of their magical items.

- Alternate Form (Su): A peat dragon can assume any animal or humanoid form of Medium size or smaller as a standard action three times per day. - Item Creation (Ex): Peat dragons are master crafters, and they gain the item creation feats as bonus feats as they age. They gain each feat at the appropriate caster level (Young – Scribe Scroll; Juvenile – Brew Potion, Craft Wondrous Item; Young Adult – Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wand; Adult – Craft Construct; Mature Adult – Craft Rod; Very Old – Craft Staff, Forge Ring). Peat dragons gain a +10 bonus to craft the appropriate masterwork item for items used in the creation of magic items.
